GustoMSC is an engineering company operating in the global offshore energy and construction industries. This includes, among other things, both oil and gas and offshore construction. The principal activities include licensing designs, supplying heavy equipment and providing services. Our designs are for all types of mobile offshore installations, such as jack-up rigs, semi-submersibles, and vessels and barges. Hardware product ranges include jacking systems and offshore cranes. Services include engineering consultancy, construction supervision and field support to fleet owners.
GustoMSC’s primary business process is run as a project organization and employs more than 150 employees in a wide variety of jobs. The position of Legal Counsel is created in the expansion of the legal department and will be based in Schiedam, the Netherlands. You will report to the General Counsel.
In 2012 GustoMSC was carved out of the SBM Offshore group of companies. GustoMSC is a young and growing organization, yet with a long track record of technological excellence in the offshore industry.
Job description Legal Counsel Business Support GustoMSC
As a Legal Counsel you will provide legal business support to internal clients in commercial and technical roles. You will operate in a quick-paced and international environment. Responsibilities include:- drafting, reviewing, and negotiating commercial and IP contracts;
- advising on and handling disputes;
- managing outside counsel as required;
- working across business units and functions as a business partner to ensure that there is consistency and understanding of needs and advice;
- contributing to the general goals of the legal department, such as creating legal awareness, to keeping up to date standard forms and Q&A's, and to the know-how system in general.

You understand your role as a legal counsel business support. As a solid business partner you intuitively understand business cases. You are able to translate the business’ requirements in straightforward legal advice, never losing sight of integrity and quality. Pragmatism, intelligence, creativity, and a drive for results are what we are looking for in a legal counsel business support.You are a lawyer with between 6 and 10 years of relevant experience, including as attorney or advocate having qualified at any bar. We consider the following qualities definite pluses:
- In-house experience within a commercial enterprise;
- having worked in a common law jurisdiction, or being demonstrably familiar with at least contract law in any of the major common law jurisdictions;
- experience in a technical business: for example technology licenses, trade secrets protection, IP infringement disputes;
- having operated professionally across borders.
You have a good understanding of the challenges in working across jurisdictions, especially in the Far and Middle East. Affinity with contract drafting and the tactics of getting what you need in negotiations. You have a strong personality, down to earth. Independent thinker, knows how to deliver and handle criticism. Open to learning new things. You are organized, innovative and analytical. English language skills matter, especially in the context of contract drafting. Willing to travel internationally.
